The stock market has continued its terrible start to September as increasing fears of a global recession continue to rattle investors.

After another heavy night of selling in the United States and Europe, the Australian market shed another 1.5 per cent today, taking its loss for the first six days of the month to nearly four per cent, or well over $30 billion.
